It is almost insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and dimethyl sulfoxide. 4-Hydroxybenzophenone can effectively absorb ultraviolet rays and prevent damage to substances caused by ultraviolet radiation. Phenol reacts with benzyl alcohol under basic conditions to produce phenophenol, and then 4-Hydroxybenzophenone powder is obtained by esterification with dimethyl carbonate.

It is obtained by heating rearrangement of phenyl benzoate. The benzyl benzoate was heated to 70℃ to melt, the anhydrous aluminum trichloride was quickly put into the stirring, the reaction escaped hydrogen chloride, and heated up by itself, and the reaction was carried out at 130℃ for 15min. Let cool and add diluted hydrochloric acid. Strain and rinse until neutral. The cake was recrystallized with benzene to obtain 4-Hydroxybenzophenone powder
