Uses and synthesis of Camptothecin powder

Camptothecin powder Light yellow acicular crystal. Insoluble in water, soluble in chloroform, methanol, ethanol. Camptothecin is a kind of alkaloid proposed from the seed or root bark of deciduous camptothecin family, which can directly destroy the DNA structure and bind to DNA, thus making DNA vulnerable to endonuclide attack, while inhibiting DNA polymerase and affecting DNA replication. Camptothecin is mainly sensitive to proliferating cells and is a cell cycle specific drug, acting on the S phase. It has slight lethality to G1, G2 and M phase cells. Camptothecin is mainly used for digestive tract tumors, and has a good effect on gastric cancer, rectum and colon cancer, which can improve the chance of surgical resection of advanced gastric cancer. It has certain curative effect on cylindroid adenocarcinoma of head and neck, bladder and lung.

1. Camptothecin powder binds irreversibly tothe DNA topoisomerase I complex, affecting cell cycle progression and being used as an anticancer drug. It is used for gastric cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer, cylindromatous cancer of the head and neck and bladder cancer.
2. Camptothecin is used for the treatment of gastric cancer, bowel cancer, chronic granulocyte type and acute leukemia
3. Camptothecin was originally isolated from the stem wood of the Camptothecin tree and showed anti-leukemia/anti-tumor activity. It binds irreversibly to the DNA topoisomerase I complex, inhibits the DNA recombination after topoisomerase I shear, and locks the enzyme and DNA in the form of covalent bond.

Physicochemical Property of Camptothecin powder

Light yellow acicular crystal. Melting point 259-263℃ (decomposition), also reported 275-277℃ and 287-288℃. Slightly soluble in ethanol, chloroform, insoluble in water. It cannot form stable salt with acid, but can be heated with sodium hydroxide solution to form sodium salt and soluble in water. Sodium brine solution yellow clear with blue fluorescence.
