Uses and synthesis of Rotundine powder

Rotundine powder, also known as craniodyne, L-tetrahydropalmatine, is white or yellowish flake or columnar crystal, odorless, slightly bitter, and turns yellow when exposed to light and heat. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, soluble in chloroform and ether. The solubility of sulfate in water is large, and it is mostly made into injection.

The analgesic effect of Rotundine is weaker than that of pethidine and stronger than that of ordinary analgesics. Rotundine has no respiratory inhibition effect at therapeutic dose, does not cause gastrointestinal smooth muscle spasm, and has certain effect on acute and chronic persistent pain and dull visceral pain. Rotundine is suitable for patients with insomnia due to pain, but also for gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer pain, menstrual pain, contractions after childbirth, tension insomnia, spastic cough, etc.
