Uses and synthesis of Gastrodin powder

Gastrodin powder, also known as Gastrodin, is a sedative, hypnotic and anticonvulsant drug extracted from the dried root of Gastrodia, a plant of the orchid family. It is a white crystalline powder at room temperature, easily soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, acetone and hot ethyl acetate, but insoluble in ether. Gastrodin is hydrolyzed with bitter almond enzyme. P-hydroxymethylbenzenol aglycones can be obtained. It can restore the balance imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory processes of cerebral cortex, and has good antihypertensive, sedative and hypnotic effects, and has certain curative effects on neurasthenia, insomnia and headache. Gastrodin can also dilate blood vessels, improve myocardial microcirculation, relieve cerebral vasospasm, increase myocardial nutrient blood flow and improve oxygen supply capacity. It is the main medicine for the treatment of headache, dizziness, numbness of limbs and convulsions.
