Sodium alginate powder is soluble in hot water and cold water, 1% aqueous solution pH value of 6 ~ 8, can form a viscous colloidal solution, and easy to mix with proteins, starch, pectin, gum arabic, carboxymethylcellulose, sucrose, propanetriol and sorbitol. Insoluble in dilute acid with pH less than 3. When the pH is 6~9, Sodium alginate Raw Materials viscosity is stable, and its viscosity decreases when heated above 80℃.

Physicochemical Property of Sodium alginate powder
Colorless or light yellow filamentous granule or powder solid. Sodium alginate Raw Materials is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether and chloroform.
Sodium alginate powder is hygroscopic. The aqueous solution of sodium alginate is stable at pH 4-10, precipitation occurs at pH <3; hydrolysis occurs at pH >10, and viscosity is lost; metal containers cannot store sodium alginate solution. The solution is susceptible to microorganisms during storage, changing its viscosity.
The concentration of the solution decreases when it is heated above 70°C; hot-pressure sterilization can reduce the viscosity of the solution; γ-ray sterilization also reduces the viscosity of the solution. Preservatives should be added to topical preparations for preservation. Bulk substances should be stored in airtight containers in a cool, dry place.
Production methodprocess of Sodium alginate powder
The kelp after iodine extraction is stirred and soaked in sodium carbonate solution for 2h at 60~80℃, the extracted liquid is roughly filtered through 0.54mm sieve cloth, and then the kelp residue is removed by emulsification floatation method, and then the clear liquid is finely filtered through 0.147mm sieve cloth.
The pH was adjusted to 2 with hydrochloric acid, the alginate gel was precipitated, and 5% calcium chloride was added to dehydrate the gel. After pressure filtration, the water content of the gel was below 75%, and 6%-8% sodium carbonate solution was added to make the gel alkaline, and it was dried after standing for 8h to obtain Sodium alginate Raw Materials .
