Ammonium carbonate powder, commonly known as ammonium carbonate, is a normal salt of ammonium carbonate, molecular formula (NH4)2CO3. Ammonium carbonate is colorless or white cubic crystal or powder, with strong ammonia odor. The industrial product is a double salt of ammonium bicarbonate and ammonium carbamate, a white, small block or flake or crushed solid product. Often contains 1 molecule of crystalline water, hygroscopic, soluble in water, decomposition in hot water. Insoluble in ethanol and carbon disulfide.

Ammonium carbonate used as raw material of baking powder, various ammonium salts, buffer, printing and dyeing additives, fertilizer and analytical reagent. Edible ammonium carbonate is used as a buffer, a neutralizer, a leavening agent, and a fermentation promoter (in the manufacture of wine).
