β-Alanine powder is also known as β-amino-propionic acid, 3-amino-propionic acid. White diamond shaped crystal or powder. Molecular weight 89.09. Melting point 200℃ (decomposition). The relative density is 1.437. Soluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol and ethanol, insoluble in ether and acetone. Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid; it is the only naturally occurring beta-amino acid. In nature, it can exist in free state in the root nodules of legumes, in tea leaves, brain hydrolysates of mammals, and in tobacco leaves and smoke.
