Decyl Glucoside liquid is a compound obtained by acetal dehydration of decyl alcohol and glucose under the condition of acid catalyst. The general composition is a mixture of decyl α,β-monoglycosides or polyglycosides. There are two main industrial production methods: direct glycosidation and transglycosidation.

• (1) Direct glycosidation method (direct method or one-step method)

The process of generating decyl glucoside by direct reaction of glucose and decanol as raw materials in the presence of a catalyst is called one-step synthesis of decyl glucoside. In this reaction process, the reaction is generally carried out under vacuum using an acid catalyst, and decanol needs to be in excess in the reactants, and after the reaction is finished, the unreacted decanol is removed under high vacuum, and then diluted with water for decolourisation.

• (2) Transglycosidation (indirect method or two-step method)

Glucose firstly reacts with C2-4 short carbon chain alcohol in the presence of acidic catalyst at 80-120℃ to produce short carbon chain glucoside, and then carries out glycoside transfer reaction with decanol to produce long carbon chain decyl glucoside, and then removes the excess decanol under high vacuum to obtain Glucoside CAS 141464-42-8 with the degree of polymerisation (D P) of 1.3~2.5.
