Production method of Butylated Hydroxytoluene Powder

After gasification of isobutanol, dehydration reaction is carried out in the presence of catalyst to produce isobutene, and p-cresol alkylation reaction is obtained. kg/ton Isobutanol (95%) 1400 p-Cresol (80%) 1000

    • (1) Butylated Hydroxytoluene Powder is prepared by combining p-cresol and tert-butanol. P-cresol, tert-butanol according to 1:1.1 (molar ratio) into the reactor heated to dissolve, and then add the catalyst phosphoric acid, at 65-70 ℃ under strong stirring reaction. The reaction product was first washed with 10% sodium hydroxide solution to alkaline, and then washed with water to neutral. Remove the solvent by distillation, and then recrystallize the product by ethanol.
    • (2) Butylated Hydroxytoluene Powder is prepared from p-cresol and isobutene. According to the chemical formula measurement of isobutylene into 98% of the p-cresol and 2% of the mixture of concentrated sulfuric acid, at 65-70 ℃ under the reaction of 5h, the conversion rate of p-cresol up to 95%. The acid was washed off with hot water at 60°C, and then washed successively with 10% NaOH and hot water to neutral to obtain the crude product. Dissolve the crude product in 50% ethanol at 80-90 ℃, and add 0.5% of thiourea, filter, dry and dry while hot to get the finished product. Yield 90%-95%, purity 99.5%, melting point greater than 69.5 ℃. The main and secondary towers are used in tandem process in industry. Firstly, p-cresol and catalyst are added into the main and secondary towers, the temperature of the main tower is controlled at 65-80℃, and the temperature of the secondary tower is controlled at 50-70℃. Isobutylene gas is introduced from the bottom of the main tower, most of which reacts with p-cresol in the main tower, while the remaining part comes out from the top of the main tower and enters the bottom of the secondary tower to further react with p-cresol. The reaction cycle of the main tower was controlled to be 4-5 h. When the reaction was finished, the isobutylene gas was stopped, 20% NaOH solution was added and bubbled with compressed gas. The neutralized alkylation product was separated by a distillation column (8 theoretical plates) to obtain the crude product. The latter was dissolved with 95% ethanol, ion-exchanged to remove inorganic salts, and cooled to 10-20°C for crystallization, separation, and vacuum drying to obtain a product with a melting point greater than 69°C.
