Uses and synthesis of Tributyl citrate liquid

Tributyl citrate liquid, chemical name 3-hydroxy-3-carboxyglutarate tributyl citrate liquid, is an ester compound, colorless transparent high boiling point liquid, slightly soluble in water, and most organic solvents miscible. Commercially formed by the reaction of citric acid with n-butanol, Tributyl citrate can be used directly as a plasticizer or can be further processed into the excellent plasticizer tributyl citrate.

Tributyl citrate liquid is low toxicity and can be regarded as non-toxic plasticizers, commonly known as environmentally friendly plasticizers, which can replace the limited application of phthalate plasticizers. Tributyl citrate liquid is an environmentally friendly plasticizer and lubricant. At room temperature, it is non-toxic, fruity, colorless and transparent oily liquid. Boiling point 170℃ (133.3Pa), flash point (open cup) 185℃. Soluble in most organic solvents

Applications/Functions of Tributyl citrate liquid

• Tributyl citrate liquid is a non-toxic plasticizer that can be used for non-toxic PVC granulation, food packaging materials, children's soft toys, medical products, polyvinyl chloride, vinyl chloride copolymers, and cellulose resins.
• Tributyl citrate is used as a gas chromatographic fixing solution, toughening agent for plastics, foam remover and solvent for nitric fiber
• Tributyl citrate is used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene copolymers and cellulose resins.

Physicochemical Property of Tributyl citrate liquid

Tributyl citrate is a colorless oily liquid with a slight odor. Insoluble in water, soluble in methanol, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, glacial acetic acid, castor oil, mineral oil and other organic solvents.

Production methodprocess of Tributyl citrate liquid

When the acid value of the reactant drops below 1mgKOH/g, the end point of esterification is the reflux of citric acid and n-butanol (dosage ratio 1:1) under the action of sulfuric acid (dosage is 0.3% of the total mass of citric acid and n-butanol) at 150℃ for 4 ~ 5h. The products are decolorized by activated carbon, filtered, neutralized, washed and distilled under vacuum. The Tributyl citrate liquid is known as Tributyl Citrate liquid.
