Physicochemical Property of Monobenzone powder

Monobenzone CAS 103-16-2 is a colourless solid, classified as hydroquinone monobenzyl ether. Monobenzone is soluble in alcohol, benzene, and ether, and practically insoluble in water.

Monobenzone powder is a decolourising agent with the effect of enhancing the rate of elimination of melanin secreted by skin cells, and studies have shown that the molecular mechanism of its action may be related to tyrosinase.

Production methodprocess of Monobenzone powder

Add 2.63g (0.028mol) of hydroquinone in a 100mL conical flask, weigh 1.12g (0.028mol) of sodium hydroxide, add 8mL of water, wait for the sodium hydroxide to be dissolved and then added dropwise to the conical flask containing hydroquinone, shaken thoroughly, then add 15mL of LDMF and 2.52g (0.02mol) of benzyl chloride, and then add 15mLDMF and 2.52g (0.02mol) of benzyl chloride, then add 15mLDMF and 2.52g (0.52mol) of benzyl chloride, and then add 15mLDMF and 2.52g (0.52mol) of benzyl chloride. Under the condition of microwave radiation power of 320W, the reaction was carried out for 60s.

After the reaction, it was cooled to room temperature. The reaction was first adjusted to alkaline with 10% sodium hydroxide, filtered, and the filtrate was washed with 10% sodium hydroxide until the filtrate was colourless (the filtrate was hydroquinone bisbenzyl ether, which could be recycled). The filtrate was acidified with hydrochloric acid to precipitate Monobenzone Raw Materials completely, then after filtration and ice water washing, recrystallised with alcohol and water, and decoloured with activated charcoal, 2.55g of white solid was obtained, with a yield of 63.79%.
