Uses and synthesis of Ampicillin sodium powder

​Ampicillin sodium powder is a broad spectrum penicillin, white or white like powder or crystal. Soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in ether. The antibacterial spectrum is wider than that of penicillin, and it also has antibacterial activity against some gram-negative bacilli (such as Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis). The effect on gram-positive cocci is similar to that of penicillin. Ampicillin sodium can also be hydrolytically inactivated by penicillinase produced by bacteria. Clinical application for the treatment of sensitive bacteria caused by respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, gastrointestinal infection, skin soft tissue infection, meningitis, sepsis, endocarditis and so on. Ampicillin sodium is the drug of choice for enterococcal infections.
