Uses and synthesis of Sodium Iron chlorophyllin powder

Sodium Iron chlorophyllin powder is a natural chlorophyllin derivative obtained from natural plants after refining. Sodium Iron chlorophyllin is dark green crystal or powder, soluble in water, greenish-brown. Slightly soluble in ethanol, chloroform, almost insoluble in petroleum ether. Stable in dry condition. Hygroscopic state can be metamorphic, it is difficult to dissolve in water. Light resistance is stronger than chlorophyll, but weaker than cupric chlorophyllate. Sodium Iron chlorophyllin is used as raw material in pharmaceutical industry to treat iron deficiency anemia. Used as an additive in the food industry.

Applications/Functions of Sodium Iron chlorophyllin powder

Food coloring. Sodium Iron chlorophyllin powder can be used in caramel sugar, fruit hard candy soup, ice cream, AGAR and so on. When used, it is pre-prepared into about 5% aqueous solution and added to food. Sodium Iron chlorophyllin is used in acidic food or calcium-containing food, resulting in precipitation and precipitating in hard water to form insoluble salt.

Production methodprocess of Sodium Iron chlorophyllin powder

Sodium Iron chlorophyllin was obtained by adding acetone or methanol to chlorophyll and adding ferric chloride-methanol solution acidified by hydrochloric acid after heating and stirring. After the iron replacement reaction, ferric chlorophyllin was obtained by distillation to remove the solvent, and sodium iron chlorophyllin was obtained by saponification with sodium hydroxide methanol solution.
