Tryptophan powder was a neutral aromatic amino acid containing indolyl, white or slightly yellow leaf crystal or powder with the solubility of 1.14 g(25°C) in water, soluble in dilute acid or dilute base, relatively stable in alkaline solution and decomposed in strong acid. Tryptophan was slightly soluble in ethanol, but insoluble in chloroform and ether. Tryptophan is a heterocyclic amino acid, which is an essential amino acid. In vivo, it can be converted into a variety of physiological active substances such as 5-hydroxytryptamine, niacin, melanin tensin, pineal hormone and xanthuric acid. When the human body lacks tryptophan, it will not only cause general hypoproteinosis, but also produce special diseases such as skin disorders, cataracts, vitreous degeneration and myocardial fibrosis.

Production methodprocess of Tryptophan powder
Dl-tryptophan was used as raw material to prepare Tryptophan powder by adding chloroacetic anhydride in the cooling state, grinding in ice water after sulfuric acid acidification, recrystallization in water after filtration, and finally treating with tryptophan powder to remove D-type, acidification by acetic acid and recrystallization by ethanol.
