The reaction of Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Raw Materials with water to form carbon dioxide is one of the key reactions in the manufacturing process of polyurethane foam; moisture should be avoided. The polymerization reaction is slow at room temperature, but it can self-polymerize to form dimer when heated above 45°C or in the presence of catalyst. It can react with strong oxidizing agent. It will catch fire when exposed to heat, open flame and sparks. Cyanide and nitrogen oxide are released by decomposition when heated.
Application/Function of Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Liquid
Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Liquid is mainly used in polyurethane products, including foam, polyurethane coatings, and polyurethane rubber; it also has some applications in polyimide fibers and adhesives.
Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate CAS 584-84-9 is used in the synthesis of fibers, foams and rubbers, and also as an adhesive
Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Raw Materials has two isomers: 2,4-toluene diisocyanate and 2,6-toluene diisocyanate. Toluene diisocyanate is an aqueous white or yellowish liquid with strong irritating odor, accumulation and latency in human body, strong irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract, inhalation of high concentration of toluene diisocyanate vapor can cause bronchitis, bronchopneumonia and pulmonary edema; contact of liquid with skin can cause dermatitis. Liquid contact with the eyes can cause severe irritation, and if left untreated, may lead to permanent damage. Long-term exposure to toluene diisocyanate can cause chronic bronchitis. Hypersensitivity to toluene diisocyanate may cause shortness of breath, associated shortness of breath, dyspnea and coughing.
Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Raw Materials is miscible with ether, diethylene glycol, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, chlorobenzene, kerosene, and olive oil. It can react with compounds containing hydroxyl groups, water, amines and compounds with active hydrogen atoms to form carbamates, urea, aminourea, etc. Toluene is obtained by nitration of 2,4- and 2,6-dinitrotoluene with mixed acid, then hydrogenated and reduced in the presence of nickel catalyst to obtain 2,4- and 2,6-diaminotoluene, which is then reacted with phosgene in chlorobenzene solution. It is mainly used as raw material for the production of polyurethane resin, used in the production of polychlorinated ester blister plastics, coatings, rubber, adhesives, sealants, etc.. It is also used as rubber vulcanizing agent, protein cross-linking agent, etc. There are also some applications including foam; polyurethane coatings; polyurethane rubber; polyimide fibers and adhesives, etc.
Property and Stability of Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Liquid
Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Raw Materials is a colorless liquid. Melting point 19.5-21.5℃; boiling point 251℃, 126℃ (1.47kPa), relative density 1.2244 (20/4℃), flash point 132℃.
Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Liquid can be miscible with ether, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, chlorobenzene, gasoline, and decomposed by reaction with water and alcohol. It is mostly a mixture of 2,4-isomer and 2,6-isomer, and there are two grades of TDI-65/35 (65% of 2,4-isomer) and TDI-80/20. The melting point of the former is 3.5-5.5℃, while the latter is 11.5-13.5℃.
Production method of Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Liquid
- Toluene-2,4-diisocyanate Liquid is produced by the nitration of toluene to form dinitrotoluene, which is then reduced to obtain toluenediamine. TDI (mainly 2,4-isomer) is obtained by reacting toluene-2,4-diisocyanate with phosgene.
