Uses and synthesis of Anthracene Powder
Anthracene Raw Materials is commonly known as "green oil brain", a kind of thick ring aromatic hydrocarbon, molecular formula C14H10, molecular weight 178.22, colorless prismatic crystal, blue-violet fluorescence, sublimation, toxic. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, soluble in ether, benzene, toluene, chloroform, acetone, carbon tetrachloride. Anthracene vapor in 700 ~ 800 ℃ and platinum role, the generation of dimers. Anthracene Raw Materials have been classified as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) in the European Union's Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals Act (REACH).
Anthracene Powder, also known as scintillation crystals, is a dense aromatic hydrocarbon containing three rings with the molecular formula C14H10. solid polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons consisting of triphenylene rings.Anthracene Powder is found in coal tar. The centers of the three rings of anthracene are in a straight line and are isomers of phenanthrene. Anthracene is colorless flaky crystals; blue-violet fluorescence; melting point 215°C, boiling point 340°C, relative density 1.283 (25/4°C); easy to sublimate; insoluble in water, insoluble in ethanol and ether, soluble in hot benzene.Anthracene Powder CAS 120-12-7 The 9,10 position in the molecule is more chemically active, and oxidized with nitric acid, generating 9,10-anthracenedione (structural formula see anthraquinone), is an important intermediate in the synthesis of anthraquinone dyes; reduced with sodium and ethanol, generates 9,10-dihydroanthracene; chlorination generates 9,10-dichloroanthracene, the latter heated to lose a molecule of hydrogen chloride, into 9-chloroanthracene; anthracene can also be used as a conjugated diene, and cis-butene dianhydride and so on in the 9,10-position of the Diels-Alder reaction.
Industrially, crude anthracene is fractionated by crystallization from the anthracene oil fraction obtained from fractionated coal tar, and then purified by sublimation. High purity anthracene is used as a scintillation agent in scintillation counters..
Applications / Functions of Anthracene Powder
- Anthracene Powder CAS 120-12-7 Anthraquinone is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of disperse dyes, alizarin, and reducing dyes, and can be used as a raw material for plastics and insulating materials.
- Anthracene Powder CAS 120-12-7 is mainly used in the manufacture of dyestuff intermediate anthraquinone and tannin. It can be used as insecticide, fungicide and gasoline clotting inhibitor. High purity anthracene is used to make single crystal anthracene, which is used in scintillation counters.
- Anthracene Powder is used for the extraction of anthracene, phenanthrene, carbazole, anthraquinone dyes, carbon black, synthetic tanning agents and various paints.

Physicochemical Property of Anthracene Powder
Anthracene Powder is an acicular crystal with light blue fluorescence. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, ether, soluble in benzene, chloroform and carbon disulfide.
Preparation Method of Anthracene Powder
- 1. The content of Anthracene Raw Materials in coal tar is 1.4%. I anthracene oil fraction section obtained from continuous distillation of tar, accounting for 12-14% of the tar, the initial distillation point of 300 ℃, the distillation of 95% before 350 ℃. I anthracene oil by cooling crystallization, vacuum filtration or centrifugal machine to remove some of the oil, centrifuged crude anthracene oil content of more than 20-25%, the rest of the components are: anthracene 25-30%, carbazole 20-25%, phenanthrene 30% or so. The yield of anthracene is 58-k87% of the anthracene source in the tar. Besides benzene and naphthalene, anthracene is one of the most important components in coal tar. In the industrial production of anthracene, it is much more difficult to manufacture than naphthalene because phenanthrene and carbazole, which have similar boiling points, must be separated out. Even with a clever combination of distillation, crystallization and solvent extraction, the yield is only 40-50%. Extraction and refining of anthracene from crude anthracene is done by first separating phenanthrene from anthracene and carbazole by utilizing the property that phenanthrene is soluble in oil. Further separation of anthracene and carbazole is achieved by distillation separation and potassium fusion.
- 2. Anthracene Powder CAS 120-12-7 is obtained at the final stage of distillation of coal tar.
