Applications / Functions of Ferrocene powder

Production methodprocess of Ferrocene powder
Ferrocene powder is obtained by heating iron powder and cyclopentadiene in nitrogen atmosphere at 300℃, or by reacting anhydrous ferrous chloride with sodium cyclopentadiene in tetrahydrofuran, or by electrolytic synthesis, the synthesis of ferrocene by using cyclopentadiene, ferrous chloride, and diethylamine as the raw materials can be operated according to the following method.
- Under stirring, put anhydrous ferric chloride (FeCL3) into the tetrahydrofuran in several times, then add the iron powder, and reflux under nitrogen protection heating for 4.5h to get the ferrocene chloride solution. The solvent tetrahydrofuran was evaporated under reduced pressure to give a nearly dry residue.
- Under the cooling of an ice bath, a mixture of cyclopentadiene and diethylamine was added and stirred vigorously at room temperature for 6-8h, the excess amine was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue was extracted with petroleum ether under reflux.
- The extract was filtered while hot, and the solvent was evaporated to obtain Ferrocene CAS 102-54-5 crude product. Recrystallised from pentane or cyclohexane, or purified by sublimation method, i.e. 73-84% yield of refined product.
